(2004)
I know sports are for people who aren't quite smart enough to understand regular television, with all its confusing CSI spin-offs and complicated sitcoms starring percentages of men, but even that doesn't explain sports radio. Seriously, where do they find the cretinous sub-fucks who perpetrate that shit? This flick is already operating on a pretty faulty assumption - that people think George Lopez is funny - so you can imagine how awful it gets when you throw the sports radio stuff and Christmas into the mix. The story: George Lopez is a sports radio guy who finds out that being nice makes the local sports teams win, so he changes the format of his dickish show and learns the true magic of enjoying sports on Christmas. I never thought I'd see a sports movie with a dumber premise than Field of Dreams (guy builds a baseball field that raises the dead, so they can play baseball), and I still haven't, but this is a pretty close second. Anyway, it turns out that the people who listen to talk radio prefer ignorant shitbags (as if the continued success of Michael Savage didn't make that abundantly clear), so his ratings drop like a rock and his selfish cunt wife (who thinks that being the victim of assault & battery and ending up in the hospital is no excuse for missing a Christmas recital) leaves him. It looks like he's completely boned, but suddenly everyone decides that they like his new approach after all, and it must be an Xmas miracle because they never do explain how or why this happens. Of course, his lame-ass television program did run for six seasons (six!), so I guess when George Lopez puts his mind to it, anything is possible.
