Taking Care of Business

(1990)

Another 1980s/1990s movie named after a fossilized song that came out twenty years previously? There were a shitload of these back in the day: Stand By Me, Can't Buy Me Love, Lean on Me... The list goes on and on. Why aren't there more movies from the 2000s named after twenty-year-old songs? I'd totally watch a movie called "Love Missile F1-11" or "Pour Some Sugar on Me". You can stick "Being Boring" up your ass though.

So anyway, this flick stars John Belushi's brother (why?) as a crook who breaks out of prison just so he can see the World Series. He's got it all set up so he can sneak back in without being caught, so naturally he keeps the lowest profile possible while he's on the outside by stealing some businessdude's identity, committing tons of crimes and fraud, and leaving a paper trail so clear that Mr. Magoo could follow it. It doesn't end there, though: he also takes the businessdude's calls, goes to his meetings, plays tennis with his business partners, has dinner with his boss's daughter... There's no possible way that someone wouldn't know he's an imposter and call him out, but the plot is based entirely on stupid so of course no one does. Everything else about this flick sucks endless amounts of shit, too. In fact, imagine the Human Centipede, except attached at both ends and you fed it a bunch of laxatives first, and that's how much shit this movie endlessly sucks. First off, it's impossible to root for John Belushi's brother because he's an annoying, unfunny idiot who deserves to miss the World Series because he's in jail. And I don't like the character he plays either. Second, there's not a single funny gag in this entire movie. Christ, even Johnson Family Vacation had one legitimately funny joke. Finally, and worst of all, they trot out this beyond stunning short-haired hottie who primes us with a quick side-shot of her rack but never gives us the full show. It's unreal. Throw in Q and Doctor Ugly Redhead from Star Trek: The Fake Generation, thereby reminding me of Star Trek: The Fake Generation, and you've got a flick that has officially done everything possible to piss me off. If that's what they meant by "taking care of business", well, mission fucking accomplished.
