Veggie Tales is like insidious, because at first you might not even realize it's trying to trick you into believing in Jesus. If you never heard of Veggie Tales, let me explain. See, Christians have this whole insane parallel universe where they have their own music, TV, movies, books, and who knows what the fuck that are sort of like regular stuff, only Christian. It's kind of like how Canada has its own Top 40 and when you go there there's all this music on the radio you never heard of before, and bands like Men Without Hats still have shit on the charts. Anyway, Veggie Tales is this kids' show about living vegetables with big bug eyes (Mr. Potato Head lawsuit pending) who love Jesus. In this episode an evil cucumber (Wait, the bad guy's a vegetable too? Shouldn't he be, I dunno, a vegetarian or something?) makes this new toy that all the kids want, but one of the toys is possessed by the Devil Holy Spirit, comes to life, and helps everyone learn the true meaning of Christmas, which is pretty much the same as the true meaning of Christmas in other cartoons, except they say "Jesus" more. There's also a totally unrelated part where a cucumber sings a song and they mock the IRS (it's bad enough church doesn't pay taxes, but do they have to rub our faces in it?). Frankly it's all pretty surreal and I'm not sure I even understand it. I mean, are the vegetables talking about the same Jesus my girlfriend is always screaming for when we fuck, or do they have their own vegetable messiah who was like sliced up and grilled for their sins? You know, maybe the Veggie Tales' Jesus is what the regular Jesus was eating during that Last Supper deal. Man, that's fucked up. And I thought Gnosticism was hard to understand. |
